Very good to near fine condition. Some creasing to pages in Vol. 2 and waviness of text block in Vol. 3. Very mild shelf and storage wear to spine edges and corners. Francis Jehl was one of Thomas Edison’s laboratory assistants at Menlo Park, and this set is a first-hand account of invention from inside the laboratory rather than a later popular biography mixing personal and scientific reflections. The work was itself written in Edison’s restored Menlo Park laboratory, giving the reminiscences a deliberate memorial setting as well as a documentary one (Jehl later joined Edison in re-enacting the first successful light-bulb test during the 1929 Light’s Golden Jubilee at Greenfield Village). The volumes preserve laboratory routine and apparatus, records of personnel, and the practical culture of electrical invention at the point where Edison’s work was moving from experiment toward public technology.
