Born in Vitebsk, in present-day Belarus, and active in Paris alongside the great figures of the avant-garde, Chagall created a dreamlike universe entirely his own — floating lovers, village rooftops, musicians, and luminous bouquets, painted in a palette of deep blues and radiant yellows that no other artist has matched. His work bridges folklore, memory, and modernism, and hangs today in the Louvre, MoMA, and the ceiling of the Paris Opéra. Chagall was also one of the great printmakers of his era, producing celebrated lithographs with the legendary Mourlot atelier in Paris, a tradition this edition honors.
