The Confederate prisoner of war camp known as Andersonville Prison in Georgia during the American Civil War has become a symbol of the horrors of war. Through massive overcrowding, lack of food and water, and inadequate shelter and medical care, nearly 13,000 of the approximately 45,000 prisoners died and thousands more suffered gruesomely. This is the story of that prison.
In original brown cloth with decorative designs and titles on spine. Wear to cover edges, corners and to spine ends. Same date on title page and copyright page. No loose pages. There is an owner\'s name on front endpage which resembles, but is not, the author\'s name. Contains an original fold out diagram of Andersonville Prison, measured by book\'s author. Small tears on one page and light soiling on another, both shown in photos. A very rare first printing of a book deemed an important historical work.
