Absolutely. I’d sell the story of the book, while being careful with “unauthorized”: the 1814 printing existed, but publication/distribution was reportedly obstructed by Jovellanos’s heir, so I’d explain that rather than implying it was a pirate edition.

Una interesante primera edición de 1814 con una historia editorial extraordinaria, dedicada a una de las figuras más importantes de la Ilustración española.
Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos (1744–1811) fue escritor, jurista, economista, reformador y hombre de Estado. Defendió reformas educativas, económicas y sociales y se convirtió en una figura central de la Ilustración española, viviendo además los años convulsos de la Revolución francesa, el reinado de Carlos IV y la invasión napoleónica de España.
El autor, Juan Agustín Ceán Bermúdez (1749–1829), fue amigo y colaborador de Jovellanos y uno de los grandes historiadores del arte español. Por ello, esta obra no es simplemente una biografía posterior: fue escrita por un hombre que perteneció al mismo mundo intelectual y conoció personalmente a su protagonista.
La historia de esta primera edición de 1814 es especialmente curiosa. Aunque el libro fue impreso en Madrid, la publicación encontró la oposición de Baltasar Cienfuegos, sobrino y heredero de Jovellanos, quien impidió que los ejemplares fueran distribuidos normalmente, incluso a los suscriptores. La obra no pudo circular plenamente hasta años después. Así, este ejemplar pertenece a la impresión original de 1814 cuya difusión fue bloqueada, no a una edición posterior.
El ejemplar conserva sus páginas sin cortar, dando al libro un aspecto particularmente auténtico de principios del siglo XIX. El interior se conserva mucho mejor que la frágil encuadernación exterior.
Importante: ejemplar incompleto. Comienza en la página 2; falta la página 1 y probablemente también el retrato/frontispicio originalmente incluido. El precio tiene en cuenta estas faltas. Véanse todas las fotografías.

Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos (1744–1811) war Schriftsteller, Jurist, Ökonom, Reformer und Staatsmann. Er setzte sich für Bildungs-, Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftsreformen ein und gehört zu den zentralen Persönlichkeiten der spanischen Aufklärung. Sein Leben fiel zugleich in die dramatische Epoche der Französischen Revolution, der Herrschaft Karls IV. und der napoleonischen Besetzung Spaniens.

Dieses Exemplar gehört somit zur ursprünglichen, 1814 gedruckten Ausgabe, deren Verbreitung blockiert wurde, und nicht zu einer späteren Ausgabe.
Das Exemplar besitzt noch seine charakteristischen unbeschnittenen Seiten und vermittelt dadurch unmittelbar den Eindruck eines spanischen Buches des frühen 19. Jahrhunderts. Das Innere ist wesentlich schöner erhalten als der stark beanspruchte originale Papiereinband.
Wichtig: Das Exemplar ist unvollständig. Es beginnt mit Seite 2; Seite 1 sowie vermutlich das ursprünglich vorhandene Porträt/Frontispiz fehlen. Dies wurde bei der Preisgestaltung berücksichtigt. Bitte alle Fotos beachten.

A fascinating 1814 first edition with an unusual publication history, devoted to one of the major figures of the Spanish Enlightenment.
Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos (1744–1811) was a writer, jurist, economist, reformer and statesman. An advocate of educational, economic and social reform, he became one of the central figures of the Spanish Enlightenment, living through the turbulent era of the French Revolution, Charles IV and Napoleon\'s invasion of Spain.
The author, Juan Agustín Ceán Bermúdez (1749–1829), was Jovellanos\'s friend and associate and an important pioneering historian of Spanish art. This is therefore not simply a later biography: it was written by someone belonging to Jovellanos\'s own intellectual world who knew his subject personally.
The story of the 1814 first edition is particularly intriguing. Although the book was printed in Madrid, its publication reportedly met opposition from Baltasar Cienfuegos, Jovellanos\'s nephew and heir, who prevented normal distribution of the copies, including delivery to subscribers. The work did not circulate fully until years later. This copy therefore belongs to the original 1814 printing whose distribution was blocked, rather than a later edition.
The book retains its characteristic untrimmed/deckled page edges, giving it the unmistakable appearance of an early-19th-century Spanish book. The interior survives considerably better than the fragile original paper binding.
