Mr Franklin: A Selection from His Personal Letters, edited by Leonard W. Labaree and Whitfield J. Bell, Jr., published by Yale University Press in 1956. This attractive hardcover presents selections from the personal correspondence of Benjamin Franklin and was issued to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Franklin’s birth. This is a special limited edition of only 1,500 copies, printed for members of the Poor Richard Club of Philadelphia in celebration of the club’s fiftieth anniversary in 1956.
The book is especially appealing as a collectible edition, featuring a handsome decorative patterned binding with green cloth spine, distinctive typography, decorative title-page elements, and illustrated plates, including color artwork depicting Philadelphia in the late eighteenth century. The volume was published on January 17, 1956, exactly 250 years after Franklin’s birth. The hardcover binding and interior are in overall very good condition, with light age-related wear and toning consistent with a book of this period. No dust jacket is shown.
