The Chronofixe name comes with a fascinating backstory. In the early 1950s, the French Ministry of Defense established the Type 20 specification for chronographs intended for military aviators. Records confirm that it manufactured THE ORIGINAL 1950s and 60s Type 20 and Type 21 chronographs under the Chronofixe name.
These watches were working instruments, designed for timing and navigation when a dependable wristwatch was essential cockpit equipment. Today, survivors are rare and command a huge premium.
This modern Chronofixe offers an appealing, nearly 1 for 1, interpretation of that vintage French military spec.
And obviously, if you’ve admired the highly desirable vintage Breguet Type 20, you’ll appreciate the visual kinship here. Breguet’s celebrated chronographs emerged around the same time and were derived from the very same French military specification.
The polished 316L stainless steel case measures a versatile 37mm across, with a compact 44mm lug-to-lug length and 13.5mm thickness. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the offerirectional friction bezel features a distinctive red triangle marker. Water resistance is rated at 5 ATM.
Inside is the manually wound Peacock SL4617 mechanical chronograph movement, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and rated for approximately 45 hours of power reserve when fully wound. A reliable, workhorse found under the hood of chronographs manufactured by other micro brands, like Hemel and Eska as well. As collectors know, there’s always something satisfying about being able to pick up and go with a no-date, manually wound chronograph.
The Milanese bracelet adds the finishing touch. It measures 20mm wide, matching the watch’s 20mm lug width, and comfortably accommodates wrists up to 8 inches. Its woven steel texture gives the watch a slightly dressier edge while keeping the overall look sporty and wonderfully retro.
