Elegant Art Nouveau literary anthology. Designed primarily as a high-end Edwardian-era holiday gift book, the volume functions seamlessly as both a poetry collection and a showcase for the visual art of Howard Chandler Christy.
The book contains 18 full-page illustrations by Christy. These consist of a colored frontispiece and 17 full-page color plates interspersed throughout the text. The collection includes some of Christy\'s most sought-after military and cultural archetypes, such as the famous painting \"Our Navy Girl\".
Rather than displaying work from standard national literary figures, a vast majority of the selections compile romantic and playful verses pulled directly from early Ivy League and major University literary magazines of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Because many of these verses originated in localized student publications, the volume preserves otherwise obscure turn-of-the-century light poetry.
