Vintage railroad track chisel / striking tool stamped P.M.R.Y. and 5 1/4 on the bit. P.M.R.Y. is an abbreviation used for Pere Marquette Railway, making this a nice piece of Michigan / Great Lakes railroad history. Pere Marquette Railway operated from 1900 until its merger into the Chesapeake & Ohio system in 1947.
This is a heavy railroad maintenance tool, likely used as a track chisel / rail cutting or striking tool. The opposite side of the head has a boxed maker’s mark, but it is worn and not readable. The tool is fitted with an older replacement 36” genuine hickory sledge handle marked O. Plink Handle Co., Salem, Indiana. Handle appears to have been added later than the head, but is still an older handle and presents well with the tool.

CONDITION
Good antique condition with age, patina, surface wear, oxidation, and old use marks throughout. Stamped P.M.R.Y. and 5 1/4 on the bit. Opposite side has a worn boxed maker’s mark that is visible but not readable. Handle appears to be an older replacement and has finish wear, scratches, and some chipping near the head. Please review all photos carefully as they are part of the description.
