PA-114 "printed by Benjamin Franklin" PMG VF25 £5 1760 Pennsylvania Currency

• Very Rare 2-Color Red & Black May 1, 1760 "FIVE POUNDS" or "One Hundred Shillings" Pennsylvania Colonial American Currency. Printed by Benjamin Franklin and David Hall. This note was printed from plate B.
• Very conservatively graded & certified by PMG as VF25 in an extremely rare "no comment(s)" holder. There are no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes either. I will mention that there is a very short edge split of less than 1/4" on the right side of the centerfold that PMG obviously deemed as of no significance. I do agree with the "non-call", but simply state it here for completeness.
• Undoubtedly One of the Finest Known "red & black" Benjamin Franklin printed notes known to exist, and with just superb eye-appeal for any grade.
• The £​5 denomination is the highest denomination of this issue and is tied for the fewest originally printed with just 9,900. Very few of these still exist.
• Well centered and darkly inked on both sides with vibrant red & black printing. Bold serial number and handwritten signatures.
• The ominous "To Counterfeit is DEATH", along with the all-important "Printed by B. Franklin, and D. Hall 1760" imprint on the lower back are both boldly printed.
• Low & bold 3-digit serial number 598 in brown ink along with the equally bold signatures of Charles Thomson and Joseph Redman. The third signature in red between these two signatures has faded a little too much to be certain of.
• Charles Thomson (1729-1824) was an Irish born educator, merchant, and ardent patriot who served as the Secretary of the Continental Congress throughout its entire existence from 1774 thru 1789. Often referred to as "the Samuel Adams of Philadelphia".
• Most importantly, Charles Thomson (along the with John Hancock as the President of Congress) were the only two men who signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776. This D.O.I. was the first printing by John Dunlap (printer) and displayed as a broadside to the public. Interestingly enough, he was not one of the 56 signers to the famous parchment copy which was printed later-on and signed on August 2, 1776. The mentioned 56 signers which included John Hancock, but not Charles Thomson.
• Newman lists a price (2008 pricing) of $3,000 for an example in VF20 condition. That was 18 years ago, and this note offered here is 5 points higher (see photo).
• An authentic & historical item that was printed in 1760 and issued during the French and Indian War (1754-63). A full 16 years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776 and an amazing 266 years ago!
