🖼️ Pair of Early 20th Century Colored Engravings on Metal
Offered here is an unusual matched pair of finely engraved and colored metal artworks reproducing important 18th-century compositions after Angelica Kauffmann and Jean-Honoré Fragonard.
Both pieces were acquired together and were originally framed and matted behind glass. The frames were carefully removed so both the fronts and reverse sides of the metal plates could be photographed and examined.

The lower margin includes engraved attribution text identifying Angelica Kauffmann and Dupont, along with the title “Lady Rushout & Daughter.”
Historical sale records document a colored etching of this same subject by L. Dupont dating to approximately the early 1920s. Dupont is also documented as producing stipple engravings associated with the London fine-art trade during that period.

A virtually identical colored engraving on metal, measuring approximately 9.2\" x 11.7\", has previously been catalogued by a major London sale house.
🔎 Details & Construction
Both pieces display exceptionally fine engraved and stippled detail directly on the metal surface, with added color and elaborate engraved borders.
The reverse sides show age-related oxidation, discoloration, surface residue, scratches, and faint ghosted imagery associated with their manufacture and history.
These pieces are being described conservatively as colored engravings on metal. Although their construction resembles engraved production or printing plates, they are not being represented as original printing matrices.

Both engravings are in vintage condition with age-related surface wear, oxidation, discoloration, staining, scratches, edge wear, and residue.
No attempt has been made to clean, polish, restore, or alter the metal surfaces. They have intentionally been left in their as-found condition.
Both pieces were previously framed and matted behind glass. The frames are not included.
