P. crassinervium is a epiphytic and lithophytic species native to the restinga forests along the Atlantic coast dunes, ridges, and coastal plains of Brazil. Restinga forest are characterized by sandy, acidic, nutrient-poor soils, broadleaf trees and scrubby shrubs adapted to a dry, nutrient poor environment with distinct dry and wet seasons .
This is an easy to grow climbing Philodendron. However, seller finds that P. crassinervium grows best when allowed to scramble and drape over the edge of a basket or pot with a preference for very well drained, chunky medium, perhaps even a clay, orchid pot type pot.This Philodendron is a tropical plant that requires humidity and regular irrigation. Course orchid mix ( bark, lava , charcoal, perlite, hydroton, etc) can be used or is an excellent soil amendment to liberally use. P. crassinervium can not have constantly soggy roots. Seller finds this Philodendron species will happily go a little longer between watering than some other species. It can be grown outdoors in locations that do not freeze. Acceptable light requirements range from light shade, filtered sun, filtered midday sun .
