Large folio copper-engraved map of the Peloponnese (Morea) with the Ionian and Aegean approaches, published in Nuremberg by Christoph Weigel, ca. 1719–1725, with attractive contemporary outline and wash color; the sheet shows the peninsula by districts with dense place-naming and a bustling trade-themed allegorical cartouche at lower left, while ships and coastal scenes animate the surrounding seas.
Condition: fair and complete but timeworn—old centerfold with heavy toning and long splits (with old adhesive and small losses incurred during removal from binding) reinforced on the verso, a few edge chips/tears, scattered foxing and handling, and some waviness; still a strong impression with wide margins and good color suitable for framing after conservation.
Christoph Weigel (1654–1725) was a Nuremberg engraver-publisher whose shop issued finely engraved atlases and city views noted for busy allegorical cartouches and crisp linework; his maps often updated older Dutch models with current German scholarship and were sold both colored and uncolored to a growing merchant audience.
