This lithograph was created on a rare antique Marinoni Voirin French press that dates back to the 1800\'s. It provides highly pigmented inks that will resist fading and preserve the integrity of the print for more than a lifetime. This process is the most elaborate, costly and effective way to reproduce art while maintaining the brilliance and accuracy of the original creation.
Olbinskiimmigrated to the United States in 1981, where he soon established himself as aprominent painter, illustrator and designer. Olbinski\'s work is very similar tothe work of the famous Belgian surrealistRene Magritte; Olbinski describes hisapproach to painting and illustrating as \"poetic surrealism\". He has cited hisinfluences as \"everybody\", specificallySaul Steinberg,Milton Glaser,Marshall ArismanandBrad Holland.
RafalOlbinski’s works are included in the collections of theMuseum of Modern Art(Poster Collection), the Carnegie Foundationin New York, National Arts Club in New York, theSmithsonian Institutionand the Library of Congress in Washington,Suntory Museum in Osaka, Japan, the Poster Museum in Warsaw, Poland, and othersthroughout Europe and the United States.
In1996 he was commissioned by the U.S. Information Agency to design a postercelebrating the 25th Earth Day Anniversary. From 2002 through 2010, a selectionof Olbinski paintings was included in the Grand Space projection in GrandCentral Terminal, as a highlight of the Earth Day Celebration in New York. Theother artists featured in the show areKeith Haring,Roy Lichtenstein,Robert Rauschenberg, andAndy Warhol.
In1999 Olbinski was commissioned to create a surreal image of San Francisco, byGallery 444. The proceeds from the painting were given to TheSF Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund, fundingservices for those in need.This wasfollowed by a major exhibition of paintings by Olbinski held at Gallery 444.
In2001, the Willy-Brandt House in Berlin presented the works of Rafal Olbinski ina one man retrospective exhibition entitled “Art at the Turn of theCentury”.
In2002 he created the set designs for theOpera Company of Philadelphia\'s performanceof Mozart’sDon Giovanni, highlyacclaimed by critics in the New York Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer. In thesame year the exhibition “Art with Moral Purpose” at the Goethe Institute inHamburg exhibited the paintings and posters of Olbinski.
Olbinskiwas commissioned to create several paintings, illustrating articles and essayson moral values, which appeared in seven consecutive issues of the German newsmagazineStern. This led to a travelingexhibition of these paintings, the first hosted by the wife of the President ofGermany, Eva Louise Köeh.
In2008 Olbinski had a one man exhibition titled “Olbinski - Photokina Expo” forHewlett Packard (Cologne, Germany). In 2009 he had a large museum exhibition atThe Jule Collins Smith Museum in Auburn entitled “New Dreams of Old Values”.
Hehas completed many large murals for installations in public space in Europe. Hehas produced more than 100 opera illustrations for album covers forAllegro-Music’s Opera D’Oro Series.
