Antique Siamese 1 Baht Silver Pod Duang (\"Bullet Money\") — 13th to 19th Century
Up for sale/sale is a genuine, hand-formed antique Siamese Pod Duang (commonly known as \"bullet money\"), originating from Siam (modern-day Thailand).
This silver medallion featuring the Top Mark usually the Chakara stamped into the top rounded curve.
Denomination: 1 Baht
Composition: High-purity native silver (approx. 90%–95% fineness)
Era / Period: 19th Century (Rattanakosin Kingdom era, prior to 1904 demonetization)
Condition: Circulated, average grade with natural dark silver-gray patina and visible royal punch/chakra stamps. Features a characteristic ancient manufacturing edge fracture from the heavy bar-bending process.
History & Manufacturing:
Pod Duangs were uniquely handcrafted by taking a small bar of high-purity silver, hammering and bending the ends inward toward each other to create a bulbous, bean-like shape designed to resemble a bullet. Official royal and mint marks were hand-stamped onto the metal to guarantee authenticity and authority.
