Up for grabs is an incredible, authentic pair of true vintage 1974 "Big Eye" animal oil paintings by commercial studio artist N. Canaga. Highly reminiscent of the mid-century pop-art movement popularized by Margaret Keane and Gig, this set features a mournful hound puppy looking over a wooden fence and a stylized ginger cat sitting against a brick backdrop. What makes this set extraordinary is its intact, documented history. Both pieces feature their original matching, hand-written gallery invoice sticker from Art Collectors International (Las Vegas, NV) dated April 12, 1974. The labels explicitly link the set together as itemized on invoice #75386 and #75417 ("2 - 8x10 'S' Dog & Cat"), originally held for a customer. Both pieces are housed in their gorgeous, heavily stylized original mid-century Mexican wood frames with textured canvas liner inserts.Condition Details:
• Canvases: Excellent vintage condition. The oil paint is highly vibrant, clean, and free of any visible flaking, cracking, or surface staining.
• Back Labels: Completely intact, clear, and perfectly preserved under the hanging wires.
• Frames (Please Note): The frames are structurally strong, but the puppy's frame has a notable chip missing from the bottom-right outer wood corner (clearly highlighted in the final close-up photo). There are also typical minor surface scuffs and edge dings to the stained finish consistent with 50+ years of display and storage. The fabric liners show very minor age toning but are free of water stains. This is a phenomenal "ready-to-hang" instant collection for any enthusiast of 1970s pop culture, retro kitsch, or mid-century gallery wall decor.
