These miniature paintings features traditional Persian Khatam-kari, an intricate micro-mosaic marquetry technique involving delicate wood, bone, and metal inlays. The central panel is a hand-painted miniature, a centuries-old art form in Iran often depicting courtly life, pastoral scenes, or Persian literature. Collectors prize these pieces for the high level of craftsmanship required to execute the geometric Khatam borders, which are labor-intensive to assemble. The cultural significance of Persian miniature painting, combined with the decorative appeal of the marquetry frame, keeps these pieces consistently desirable in the market.
