Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible mid-century Bb Cornet manufactured by the historic Tanabe Instrument Co., Ltd. in Tokyo, Japan.
Dating to the mid-to-late 1950s, this horn comes from Japan's golden era of boutique post-war wind manufacturing before Yamaha dominated the domestic market. It features Tanabe’s signature interlocking "T.B" monogram logo stamped cleanly on the second valve casing alongside serial number 45417.
Condition & Playability:
- Playability: Fully functional! Unlike many vintage wall-hangers, this instrument plays. The valves depress smoothly and pop right back up with good compression. Tuning slides pull and adjust as they should.
- Cosmetics: Beautiful polished brass finish. It displays a strikingly detailed, ornate hand-engraved scroll pattern down the bell stating: "The Greatest Name in the World - TANABE - Founded in 1897 - Instrument Co., Ltd. TOKYO".
- Wear: Shows minor surface marks and age-appropriate finish wear common for a 70-year-old instrument, but has no major deep structural damage or deep dents. Please review all photos carefully.
Included Accessories:
- Modern black zippered soft-shell gig bag/case with carrying straps.
- Silver-plated mouthpiece.
Perfect for collectors of rare vintage Japanese brass, historical instrument enthusiasts, or jazz musicians looking for a completely unique conversation piece with a warm, historic tone!
