A. RAYNAUD & C° — LIMOGES\"FESTIVITÉS\" — 15 Piece Service for Five
A complete three-course service for five in Raynaud\'s \"Festivités\"pattern, made in Limoges, France.
The border is built from scalloped white cartouches set againstfinely hatched emerald green, each cartouche tied with a cobalt blueribbon bow and hung with delicate garlands of green leaves, rose-pinkand russet foliate sprays. A burnished gold line finishes the rim.The well is left plain white, so the decoration frames the food ratherthan competing with it.
Raynaud named the pattern for the Directoire-era promenades at theCours-la-Reine in Paris — the \"Merveilleuses\" and \"Muscadins\" whoseeccentric, festive elegance the design recalls. The longer backstampon some of these pieces carries that inscription in French.

A NOTE ON THE BACKSTAMPSThe pieces carry two backstamp variants, and this is worth explainingrather than hiding:
- Some are marked in BLUE, with the full inscription: the encircled R device, A. RAYNAUD & C° / Limoges / FRANCE, \"FESTIVITÉS\", LAVE VAISSELLE, together with the French paragraph describing the pattern\'s inspiration.- Others are marked in GREEN, with the same maker and pattern names but without the French paragraph, and with a small hand-painted decorator\'s mark alongside.
Both are authentic A. RAYNAUD & C° marks for \"Festivités\". Limogeshouses commonly varied backstamp colour and wording between productionruns, and Raynaud often matched the mark to the dominant colour of thedecoration. The plates themselves are consistent in shape, palette andgilding — the variation is in the mark only.
CONDITIONVery good pre-owned condition overall. No cracks and no restoration.
- ONE of the five Bread and Butter Plates has a small chip to the gilded rim. This is photographed — please review the images.- The remaining pieces show light surface scratches and faint marks consistent with age and careful use; some show minor wear to the gilding.
