Near Fine. An attractive copy with a firm, sound binding and an unmarked interior. The green cloth boards show light, scattered spotting and subtle discoloration, while the burgundy leather spine remains exceptionally well preserved, with bright gilt decoration and lettering on green title and author labels. The top edge is gilt, with the remaining page edges untrimmed. The interior is clean and fresh.

A handsome limited edition, bound in quarter leather with green cloth boards, raised spine bands, gilt floral ornaments, and a decorative emblem stamped on the front cover. Printed in Great Britain by R. Clay & Sons, Ltd., on Dutch paper specially made for this edition. The limitation page confirms that only 1,275 copies were produced, with this example individually numbered 94. Includes an introduction and bibliographical note by Montague Summers, followed by Scot’s extensive examination of witchcraft, accusations, trials, conjuring, magical practices, and contemporary supernatural beliefs.

Originally published in 1584, Reginald Scot’s The Discoverie of Witchcraft is a landmark work in the history of skepticism and the study of witchcraft.
