Roman Republic silver denarius attributed to Lucius Sempronius Pitio, of the Sempronia family, struck at Rome circa 148 BC.
Obverse: Helmeted head of Roma facing right, with PITIO behind the head and an X denomination mark below the chin.
Reverse: The Dioscuri, Castor and Pollux, riding horses to the right, carrying spears, with stars above their heads. The moneyer’s abbreviated name, L·SEMP, appears beneath the horses, with ROMA below.

Condition: Circulated ancient coin that has been rather strongly cleaned in the past. Shows visible wear, surface marks, and noticeable granular surface roughness on both sides. Raised details are brighter, with darker areas remaining around the devices and near the edges. Roma’s helmet, the two horsemen, and much of the lettering remain well defined. The flan is irregular, and portions of the peripheral design are incomplete.
