Roman Republic silver denarius attributed to Marcus Papirius Carbo, of the Papiria family, struck at Rome circa 122 BC.
Obverse: Helmeted head of Roma facing right, with a laurel branch behind the head and an X denomination mark below the chin.
Reverse: Jupiter driving a four-horse chariot (quadriga) to the right. The moneyer’s inscription M·CARBO appears beneath the horses, with ROMA in the exergue below. Portions of the inscription and peripheral design are incomplete on this example.

Condition: Circulated ancient coin that appears to have had a lighter cleaning in the past. Shows visible wear, surface scratches and marks, and some uneven surface texture. Gray toning with darker areas around the devices. Roma’s portrait and helmet, the chariot and horses, and much of the reverse lettering remain visible. The flan is irregular, with a small edge split visible near the obverse nose. Portions of the design extend beyond the flan.
