Roman Republic silver denarius attributed to Marcus Volteius M. f., struck at Rome circa 78 BC.
The obverse depicts the head of Bacchus, also known as Liber, facing right and wearing an ivy wreath.
The reverse depicts Ceres holding two torches while riding in a biga, or two-animal chariot, drawn by serpents to the right. A star-shaped control symbol appears behind Ceres. The moneyer’s inscription M•VOLTEI•M•F appears beneath the chariot.

Condition: Circulated ancient coin that has been cleaned in the past. Displays wear on the raised details, surface marks, and uneven gray toning, with darker coloration around portions of the designs. Some subtle blue and gold coloration is visible in the photographs. The portrait, reverse scene, control symbol, and much of the moneyer’s inscription remain recognizable. The flan is slightly irregular, with portions of the border close to the edge.
