A spectacular vintage Regency statement brooch featuring dramatic iridescent/opalescent art-glass cabochons surrounded by sparkling faceted rhinestones.The large central cabochon displays an extraordinary rainbow/oil-slick iridescence, changing from blue, green, pink and purple depending on the light. A second large opalescent cabochon appears to the right, surrounded by numerous faceted clear and subtly iridescent rhinestones.The stones are individually prong set into an elaborate dimensional gold-tone metal framework, giving this piece wonderful depth and sparkle.The reverse is signed REGENCY in the maker’s cartouche.Regency jewelry was produced in New York from approximately the 1950s through the 1970s and is known for elaborate mid-century rhinestone designs incorporating unusual glass cabochons and Aurora Borealis/iridescent stones.
