Discover the profound wisdom of ancient Mesoamerican spiritual practices with this comprehensive guide to solar and lunar rites for healing and transformation. Designed for both practitioners and those interested in deepening their connection with celestial energies, this book offers detailed insights into shamanic rituals that align with the sacred rhythms of the sun and moon.
This practical manual explores shamanic rituals and practices tailored to each period of the day, including dawn, sunrise, noon, sunset, and midnight. It provides guidance on how to harness the energies of the sun, night sun, and moon for specific purposes such as divination, journeying with animal spirit guides, or gaining spiritual wisdom. The book incorporates a variety of techniques, including shamanic breathwork, dreamwork, mantra chanting, mudras, dancing and movement, toning, chakra work, crystals, herbs, and limpias (shamanic cleanses), offering a holistic approach to spiritual practice.
In addition, the guide examines how nighttime energies are influenced by the phases of the moon, presenting specific practices for each lunar phase. Ancient Mesoamerican shamans and modern curanderos—practitioners of curanderismo, a Latin American shamanic healing tradition—divide each day and night into distinct periods based on celestial cycles. Each segment provides unique opportunities to connect with specific energies for healing and transformation.
Author and curandera Erika Buenaflor details the rites, rituals, and deities associated with each part of the day and night. She explores the sacred tools and techniques used by ancient shamans to harness solar and lunar energies, emphasizing the sun as the source of soul energy that heals, animates, strengthens, and revitalizes on many levels. Conversely, she describes nighttime energies as transformative, ideal for connecting with nonordinary realms. The book offers rituals for dawn, sunrise, and midmorning to harness creation and new beginnings; for noon and afternoon to promote strength and spiritual wisdom; for sunset and dusk to facilitate transformation, divination, and journeys with animal spirit guides; and for midnight and predawn to support shamanic dreamwork, ancestral connection, offerings, and deep regeneration.
Furthermore, the author explores how the phases of the moon influence nighttime energies and provides specific practices tailored to each lunar phase. By intentionally aligning our activities with these celestial rhythms, we can invite abundance, healing, and spiritual growth into our lives, fostering greater health, creativity, mindfulness, and happiness.
This guide offers a rich, hands-on approach to working with the sacred energies of the sun, night sun, and moon, making it an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to deepen their spiritual practice and connect with the timeless traditions of Mesoamerican shamanism.
