Begun in 1797 and completed in its two surviving parts by 1800, Christabel belongs to the most fertile period of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s career. Although conceived as a longer poem, it remained unfinished and was not published until 1816, when it appeared together with Kubla Khan and The Pains of Sleep.
With its medieval setting, supernatural unease and highly distinctive musical structure, Christabel became one of Coleridge’s most influential and enigmatic poems. Its flexible four-stress metre, derived from the ballad tradition, was admired by Byron and helped shape later Romantic and Victorian poetry. Together with Kubla Khan and The Pains of Sleep, it forms a remarkable group of works by one of the central figures of English Romanticism.

The text is set in 14-point Monotype Bulmer, derived from the celebrated types cut by William Martin for the printer William Bulmer at the end of the eighteenth century.

Each copy is hand bound by Krzysztof Cofalik in quarter leather with marbled paper-covered boards and housed in a custom-made slipcase.
