A Fine Japanese Cloisonné Enamel Vase Decorated with Wisteria
Meiji period (1868–1912)
Of elegant pear-shaped form rising from a short spreading foot to a long, slender waisted neck and slightly flared mouth, worked throughout in exceptionally fine silver wire, the deep aubergine-blue enamel ground densely covered with minute spiralling wire motifs.
The body finely decorated with trailing wisteria (fuji) extending around the vase, the pendant racemes rendered in soft ivory-white and pale lavender enamels, interspersed with naturalistically drawn foliage in graduated shades of green, the blossoms and leaves finely delineated in silver wire.
The composition continues fluidly around the body and lower neck, the dark aubergine-blue ground providing a rich contrast to the pale flowers and intricate spiral-wire pattern.
The mouth and foot are finished with copper rims; the underside unmarked.
Height: 13 cm
Condition:Excellent overall condition. The enamels retain a strong glossy surface and the wirework remains exceptionally well preserved. No damage or restoration observed.
