Listed is a Tom Stewart Rut Niblick, 1885-1900, with "PIPE" cleek mark and no registration data below pipe mark. Clubs without registration data are much older and considerably more valuable, than those with registration data.
Rut Irons were used between 1860 and 1885, and were replaced by Rut Niblicks around 1885-1910. Niblicks replaced Rut Niblicks around 1910.
This club is in excellent condition relative to age and use. The grip is also in very good condition. Rust has been removed to prevent further damage. This club is very playable but not warranted for such use.
The club head is very small, as the face is only 2 1/8 inches high and 2 3/4 inches wide. Length of club is 36 inches. swing Weight is D6, The head's flange is 3/4 inch and the hosel measures a long 4 inches.
This club is also listed in the book " Antique Golf Collectibles " by Chuck Furjanic on page 196 where it is valued at $ 225.00
