TerPhoto offers this vintage Tair-11A 135mm F2.8 Soviet telephoto prime lens, professionally modified for cinematography and professional video production. The lens has been adapted and individually adjusted for ARRI PL mount, making its distinctive vintage rendering available for modern cinema-camera workflows. The modification includes a de-clicked aperture for smooth iris adjustments during filming and two follow-focus gears fitted to the focus and aperture controls. This makes the lens much more convenient for use with follow-focus systems, wireless motors and traditional cinema rigs. The lens has also been fully cleaned, mechanically adjusted and re-lubricated before sale.
The Tair-11A is especially known for its unusual 20-blade diaphragm, which maintains a very round aperture and produces smooth, characterful out-of-focus areas. Its 135mm focal length gives strong subject separation and compressed perspective, making it particularly attractive for portraits, close-ups, interviews, narrative cinematography, music videos and stylized commercial work. This lens provides an image circle suitable for a 35mm full-frame sensor, so you can take advantage of its original field of view and vintage optical character on compatible full-frame PL-mount cinema cameras.
Glass condition: average vintage condition. The optical elements show minor age-related wear together with small scratches and cleaning marks. During our test shooting we did not notice a significant negative effect on the final image; however, because vintage glass can react differently to strong light, backlighting and other shooting conditions, we cannot guarantee identical results in every situation. Please carefully review the last three listing photos, which are actual sample images made with this lens on a full-frame camera. The exterior shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with the age of a genuine vintage Soviet lens. Please inspect all product photographs for the exact cosmetic condition of the item you will receive. Because of the described optical condition, this lens is offered AS IS. Tair-11 family has a long Soviet optical history. Development of the original design dates to around 1950, with the original Tair-11 entering serial production around 1960. The later Tair-11A was created as an interchangeable-mount version and is generally associated with production beginning in the mid-1960s. Its optical construction is a 4-element / 3-group Sonnar-derived telephoto formula, while the “A” designation refers to the interchangeable rear-mount concept. The Tair-11A is commonly listed as having been manufactured by KMZ in the USSR into the 1990s.
