The Iowa Genealogical Society Surname Index Volumes 1-3 1972-1977
Vol. 1: In 1970 the Iowa Genealogical Society launched an ambitious project to collect as many surnames as possible with birth, death and marriage dates and spouses. Vol. 1 contains approximately 15,000 entries which are crossed indexed alphabetically. The first volume was published in 1972.
Vol. 2: Even before Vol. 1 release the Society processes another 25,000 cards and began Vol 2. which was published in 1975 with 475 pages.
Vol. 3 Part 1 and 2: So many more submission were received after 1975, and it was necessary to publish Vol 3 in two parts: Surnames A-L in one and Surnames M-Z the second one. Hence two volumes 3. The volumes contain over 700 pages.
The indexes a treasure trove of information for any genealogist researching Iowa ancestors.
