American artist Tully Filmus studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Barnes Foundation, and later taught at Cooper Union.
His work was exhibited repeatedly at the Whitney Museum during the 1940s, and the Whitney acquired his painting Gladys in 1945.
Filmus is particularly known for figurative works depicting Jewish life and tradition, subjects that became an important part of his mature artistic output.
