George \"Coot\" Garton (1923–2002) was a famous, award-winning decoy carver from New Jersey. He won multiple national and world titles for his wildlife carvings and is well-respected among folk art and waterfowl decoy collectors.

About George \"Coot\" Garton

• Who he was: A nationally renowned carver from Bridgeton and Fairfield Township, New Jersey.

• Awards: He won National Champion titles in Babylon, New York (1972, 1973, 1974) and World Champion honors at the Ward Foundation in Salisbury, Maryland. He was also inducted into the Waterfowl Festival Hall of Fame in Easton, Maryland.

• His work: While he carved various waterfowl (including mallards and geese), his hand-carved, hand-signed, and stamped decoys—including his stylized coot and duck carvings—are sought-after collector\'s items in the Americana and folk art markets.
