This Victorian centerpiece decoration probably dates between 1850 and 1900. It features gold gilt Silverplate with upper plateau, drop down decorative chains, and finely detailed camel guardians around the base.
It measures approximately 11 3/4” tall. Overall condition is very good for its age.
The details on the camels are exquisite. The metal does have some age related fading and discoloration. One of the drop down chains appears to be a replacement. One is slightly smaller and thinner than the other two. It’s an adequate replacement which I did not notice until it was studied more closely.
The gazing ball is clear glass or crystal. It has some imperfections inside the glass. No major chips or damage!
It’s a very rare and very beautiful piece. This could be a lovely adornment for your holiday table. An addition that would be very hard to find anywhere else. Or…
Perhaps a fine addition for your after dinner entertainment. Simply pull out your absinthe decanter, drink away, stare into the ball, and perhaps see into the future or conjure up visits from other guests .
Party down like it’s 1899!
