This is a vintage Zane Ware (Peters & Reed) Landsun art pottery bowl, produced in Zanesville, Ohio, during the 1920s. The piece features a distinct, softly blended matte glaze in shades of cobalt blue, teal, and cream, designed to evoke a surrealist or impressionistic landscape—a hallmark aesthetic of the Landsun line. History & Design Background
• The Maker: Originally founded as Peters & Reed Pottery in 1899, the firm used local Ohio red clay to create functional and decorative art ware. In 1921, the company was restructured and renamed The Zane Pottery Company, continuing production of their most popular heritage styles.
• The Glaze Technique: The Landsun pattern was achieved by applying multi-tonal slips over the body, blending the colors together to create fluid, painterly transitions.
• Identification: These low-slung bulb bowls typically measure around 6 to 6.5 inches in diameter and 2 inches in height. While older Peters & Reed era pieces were usually unmarked, items from the Zane Ware period occasionally feature an impressed \"ZCPO\" or \"Zanes Ware\" backstamp on their unglazed red clay bottoms.
