The Vintage 1946/47 Gibson BR-4 Guitar Amplifier is a classic piece of equipment that has been expertly maintained and restored. Produced by Gibson, a well-known brand in the musical instruments industry, this amplifier is a desirable choice for guitar enthusiasts looking for a piece of history to add to their collection. With its specific production years of 1946/47, this amplifier captures a bygone era of musical craftsmanship and sound quality, making it a valuable and sought-after item for vintage guitar aficionados.
This was one of the first post WWII tube amps produced by Gibson right about the time that their later rival Fender was just getting started. The BR-4 is a 14 watt all tube amplifier featuring a 12 inch field coil speaker. The original speaker is in fine condition and sounds great. By the way…this thing is LOUD! I ran a Fender telecaster through it, and it sounded amazing! The microphone input seems to be the loudest . I ran a microphone through it and it was equally impressive.
As you can see from the paperwork that I’m including, I just invested $270 to have the caps replaced, pots cleaned, a grounded power cord added and everything adjusted to make sure that it works perfectly. The amp measures 16 1/2” wide, 17 1/4” tall, and 8 1/4” deep and weighs in at just under 25 pounds. I tried to leave this amp as original as possible.
Cosmetically, you would be hard pressed to find a nicer example considering the age of the item. The most obvious flaw would be that one of the upright pieces on the front that serve to protect the speaker has a little bit missing on the top, and the chrome metal strip that ran down the center of it is not there. (See photos). Other than that, this thing is really impressive. Overall condition is about an 8.5 out of 10.
These were originally made to pair with Gibson’s BR-4 line of lap steel guitars. This would make a great addition to your collection of vintage gear. Don’t miss this chance to own this exceptional 80 year old piece of guitar amplification history.
This item has been carefully packaged in order to make sure that it arrives in great condition. It has been double boxed with plenty of packing materials in several layers. For what it’s worth, I spent about 2 hours just packing up this little gem, and the total weight of the box is about 40 pounds. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions that I haven’t already answered. Thanks for looking!
