Vintage “Snapshot – Flight Test Notes” technical booklet produced by Atomics International, a division of North American Aviation, for a program sponsored by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.
The booklet covers the SNAP 10A System (Systems for Nuclear Auxiliary Power), an early nuclear power system developed for use in space. Interior material includes technical illustrations and diagrams identifying the reactor, thermoelectric pump, converter radiators, shielding, instrumentation compartment and other spacecraft components. One illustrated page is dated 6-24-63, placing the material in the early 1960s Space Age.
The cover features striking period artwork of a spacecraft orbiting Earth. Staple-bound format. Back cover carries the Atomics International/North American Aviation emblem and printed reference AI-6-2-56.
A scarce and fascinating piece of Cold War, Atomic Age and early U.S. space-program ephemera, particularly desirable to collectors of nuclear technology, aerospace history and North American Aviation material.
