Vintage 1977 Smithfield VA Bluegrass Festival T Shirt 70s Single Stitch Small For Sale

Authentic and rare vintage 1977 Smithfield Bluegrass Festival T-shirt, made for the 5th Annual Smithfield Bluegrass Festival at American Sportsman Campground in Smithfield, Virginia.

Fantastic original folk-art style graphic featuring “parking lot pickers”-bluegrass musicians, banjo, guitars, upright bass, vintage vehicles and colorful festival lettering. It has a naturally aged cream/beige cotton has that wonderfully soft, thin feel and faded appearance.

Condition: True vintage condition with age-related wear. There are two small holes on the lower front as shown in the close-up photo, along with natural fading/aging throughout. Please review all photos carefully for condition. I put EXCELLENT CONDITION up front, because for a t shirt of this age, the graphics and integrity of the shirt are excellent, despite those two tiny holes. They actually add character. It is cleaned and ready to wear!

A wonderful piece of Virginia music history and a great collectible for fans of bluegrass, Americana, folk music and original 1970s graphic tees.

While the specific lineup for the 1977 iteration is difficult to find on the internet, the Smithfield Bluegrass Festival was a major regional hub during the 1970s tolk and bluegrass revival. Over its various years, the event drew some of the biggest legendary figures in bluegrass history, including:

• Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys (who originally headlined the inaugural 1973 festival)

• The Osborne Brothers

• Ralph Stanley & The Clinch Mountain Boys

• Doc Watson

• Mac Wiseman

• Lester Flatt & The Nashville Grass

And many more “parking lot pickers”. Jammers who showed up to display their musical talent and have a good time.

On the graphics, the mudflaps on the truck read:

“Edgar & Edward’s Cousin John’s Band” and Fine Pickin’ from the Virginia Hills”

The size and makers tag has been cut out but this is definitely considered a small. It fits easily on our mannequin whose measurements are:

Chest: 32", Waist: 24.5”, Hip: 34" —-for reference

But obviously a unisex t shirt
