Charming little rabbit-shaped silver box, beautifully detailed with hand-chased and engraved decoration over the body, face and feet.
The rabbit separates horizontally into two pieces to reveal a small hollow compartment. Pieces of this type are sometimes described as betel boxes or small trinket boxes.
The underside is clearly stamped 900, indicating 900-fineness (90%) silver, along with two additional marks that I have not been able to identify.
Measures approximately 1.5\" long x 1.5\" high and weighs approximately 0.8 oz.
A wonderful miniature piece for a collector of antique Asian silver, animal-form boxes, rabbits or unusual silver objects.
Exact age, maker and country of origin are unknown, so I have not attributed it to a particular silversmith or region.
