Chillis crops in tight here — just the head and a sliver of shoulder, collar open, tie loosened — and lets the crosshatching do all the work of that famous smirk. The mustache is rendered in thick, confident strokes, the eyes carry that half-lidded, in-on-the-joke look Reynolds built a career on, and the gold ground pushes through the linework to give his skin real warmth. It\'s a portrait built entirely from shadow and shading, no color beyond the stock itself, and it still reads as instantly recognizable.
Dated 1978, this lands right at the peak of Reynolds\' run as the biggest box-office draw in America, with *Smokey and the Bandit* fresh behind him and *Hooper* in theaters that fall.
