A beautiful vintage Cavanagh fedora in a distinctive golden-olive fur felt, originally designated “Brass” by the manufacturer. The warm, unusual color contrasts beautifully with the broad black grosgrain ribbon, handsome bow work, and narrow brim featuring Cavanagh\'s celebrated felted edge.
Dating to approximately the 1960s, this is an excellent example of the stylish, narrow-brimmed fedoras that defined the era. The 4½\" creased crown, generous 1⅞\" ribbon, and gently curled 1⅝\" brim create a particularly attractive silhouette.
The genuine Cavanagh Edge is an especially desirable feature. Unlike a conventional stitched or ribbon-bound edge, the Cavanagh Edge is an integral felted welt created through a specialized manufacturing process. This patented construction became one of the company\'s signature innovations and remains highly regarded among collectors of vintage American hats.
Cavanagh was among America\'s premier hatmakers, renowned for fine materials, skilled workmanship, and elegant designs.
This example retains its original ivory satin liner with decorative shirring surrounding the Cavanagh heraldic crest and A Posse Ad Esse motto, along with its original leather sweatband and surviving factory labels.
The original price ticket is present, identifying the color as BRASS, factory code C03, size 7¼, and original retail price of $27.50.
The leather sweatband also bears the gold imprint of the original retailer:
Drukenbrod
Onesto Hotel Bldg.
Canton, Ohio
The historic Onesto Hotel opened in downtown Canton in 1930 and was once one of the city\'s premier hotels. This surviving retailer imprint adds a wonderful bit of American retail history to an already distinctive hat.

This is a remarkably clean, pretty little hat, with beautiful color and proportions. It\'s just a smidge too small for me, or it would be staying right here.
