Beautiful matched pair of vintage Chinese hanging scroll paintings featuring colorful birds, fruiting branches and traditional calligraphy.
One scroll depicts a pair of green and blue birds perched beneath a pale autumn moon among branches bearing red fruit. The accompanying inscription appears to read 秋月雙鳥, approximately translating to “Autumn Moon, Pair of Birds.”
The companion scroll depicts two brown songbirds among leafy branches laden with red fruit. Its inscription appears to read 仙果雙喜, conveying an auspicious theme of fruit and double happiness.
Both works are signed 林生作 (Lin Sheng) and bear a traditional red artist seal.
The paintings are mounted as traditional vertical hanging scrolls with dark green/black patterned brocade borders and wooden roller ends. The colorful bird-and-flower imagery is characteristic of traditional Chinese hua niao nature painting.
