Gigi is one of those Italian brands that rewards the fellow who knows what he’s looking at. Produced during the golden age of Italian factory pipes, Gigi focused on turning out well-made briars with good engineering, attractive grain, and classic styling rather than chasing luxury status. They never developed the mystique of Castello or Radice, so collectors often overlook them, but that keeps prices comfortably grounded. A clean Gigi usually offers a lot more smoking pipe than its price tag would suggest. They’re not rare, they’re not flashy, and they’re probably never going to headline an sale—but if I found a sharp old Gigi in an estate lot at the right price, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring it home. That’s about as honest a recommendation as I can give a vintage factory pipe.
