Vintage hardcover edition of The Golden Treasury of Myths and Legends, adapted from the world’s great classics by Anne Terry White and beautifully illustrated by celebrated artists Alice and Martin Provensen. Published by Golden Press, New York, this is the oversized Giant Golden Book Deluxe Edition featuring striking mid-century artwork throughout.
The book presents classic myths and legendary stories in an accessible format accompanied by distinctive full-color illustrations. The Provensens’ stylized artwork gives this volume a wonderful mid-century modern look and makes it especially desirable for collectors of vintage children’s books, Golden Books, mythology titles, and illustrated books.
The photographs show several of the impressive interior spreads, including the story of Oedipus and other richly illustrated mythology selections. The illustrated endpapers are equally attractive and feature kings, mythological creatures, ancient symbols, masks, pottery, and other classical imagery.
Condition: Pre-owned vintage condition. The illustrated hardcover boards show expected age-related wear, including rubbing, scuffing, edge and corner wear, and some discoloration/aging. The spine also shows visible wear. Interior pages appear generally well preserved for their age with normal age toning and occasional spotting or marks possible. The binding remains intact in the photos.
Please note that there is a handwritten gift inscription dated 1962 on the inside illustrated endpaper. This is part of the book’s history and should be considered when evaluating condition.
