Up for sale is a beautiful unique antique Hornback Alligator Briefcase Luggage handcrafted by Rountree Bros. in Atlanta, Georgia in the early 1900s. This briefcase is a stunning conversation piece. The Hornback design is very pronounced throughout the piece. The briefcase does show some distinct wear from use. Some of the seams are split, there is some damage to the leather, and there are some loose/dry pieces throughout (see photos). The briefcase measures 25 3/4” in length, 14” in height, and has a depth of 8”. Pictures do not do this amazing piece of luxury goods history justice. This would make an excellent conversation piece or stellar jewel of someone’s collection.
The Rountree Bros sold handmade handbags, steamer trunks, and briefcases beginning in the 1890s and continuing through the early 1900s. I have been unable to find any other trunk, handbag, or briefcase with this design.
