Vintage Makah Style Northwest Coast Woven Basket Pictorial Red Black 6.5"
Beautiful vintage handwoven basket featuring red, black, green and natural-colored woven decoration with stylized pictorial/animal motifs.
The basket has a finely woven body, plaited center base, flared sides, and an unusual wrapped rim with multiple integrated loop handles. The construction and decorative techniques appear consistent with Northwest Coast basketry, particularly Makah/Nuu-chah-nulth examples.
This basket came from the estate of a collector of Native American artifacts who lived in Northern California. It is attributed to Northwest Coast/Makah-style basketry based on its construction and design; maker and tribal attribution are unknown and are not guaranteed.
