Vintage Ohashido Vermilion Urushi Ebonite Fountain Pen, 14k B nib, original box For Sale

This is a beautiful vermilion urushi ebonite pen from legendary penmaker Ohashido. Despite being decades old, this pen is in excellent condition and was handcrafted by Eiichi Uehara, who was recognized by the Japanese Government as a National Treasure. Ohashido (sometimes written as "Ohasido") was Japan's second oldest fountain pen maker until it ceased operations in 2024. The company was a multi-generational endeavor of the Uehara family, who handcrafted pens on a manual, foot-powered lathe. This pen has a beautiful vermilion urushi lacquer that has matured into a deep crimson red through decades of age (and proper storage). The pen has a large 18k gold band around the base of the cap and a broad nib custom made for Ohashido by Sailor. The nib has significant tipping, which was common on Ohashido pens to ensure a smooth and pleasurable writing experience (Please note: in one photo it may appear the nib is bent downward toward the feed. It is not. What you are actually seeing is the large ball tipping). The pen writes smoothly and provides a true wet, broad line. Feel free to reach out with questions.
