This violin has a label in it that says William Lewis & Son that was made in 1999. Noted as being the Laurel, model #101. This is a student level violin. Lewis has been making stringed wood musical instruments since 1874. They were acquired by Selmer in 1995.

Beautiful graining and finish on this violin The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this violin. The violin has a two piece soundboard and two piece back. Nice golden colored stain on the of the entire violin. Some very minor finish loss over the years to the body of the violin. We see no repairs to the body of the violin, the neck or the scroll to report to you. Some finish loss along the edges, belly, and on the back.

Nice purfling (painted on), f hole, and scroll work. The corner blocks are in place. The beaks look good. The beaks and the sides of the violin show some finish loss from use. The fingerboard has no ridging that would impede string play. The four tuning pegs are in place. The soundboard and back are tightly glued to the sides, no separations to report. The tuner box is intact, no cracks, splits or repairs.

The sound post is up inside the violin body. No guarantee it will stay in position while being shipped to you. Nice two piece belly and back on this fiddle. We see no cracks or repairs on it to report. The back's finish has a translucent look to it. The purfling is painted on, not inlay.

The violin strings are in place, except for 1. Some tape on the neck that was just there to assist the last owner with finger placement, will come right off. The chin rest, bridge, and tailpiece are with the violin. Missing one of the strings, expect should be restrung anyway if has been sitting around for awhile.

The violin is 23" long, by 8-1/9" across at the lower bout and 6-5/8" across at the upper bout. The violin body is 13-7/8" long.

Also comes with a nice violin bow with a round shaft. The bow is 28-13/16" long and weighs 1.9 ounces.Beautiful brown colored frog with the graining showing. The two mother of pearl cateyes are in place as is the mother of pearl on the bottom of the frog. Adjusting screw is silver colored on both ends with an ebony piece in the middle. The horse hair is in place. No markings as to whom made the bow or country of origination.

Case is intact. The zippers work. The legs on the bottom side of the case show some wear. Has the Lewis emblem on the top of the case.

This musical instrument is not represented to be in playing condition. There may need to be refurbishing done to make this instrument playable again. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
