Vintage Ortega’s Chimayo handwoven wool vest, men’s size 42. Made in Chimayo, New Mexico, USA. 100% all wool, hand woven. Ivory ground with classic black, taupe and mustard lightning / serrated-diamond motifs on both fronts and the center back. Four black buttons with loop closures. Pointed hem, V-neck, unlined. Original Ortega’s label and Chimayo garment care tag present. Circa 1960s. Excellent vintage condition. Dry clean only. Original piece, not a reproduction.
The vest is made from cloth handwoven in the Ortega family workshop — one of the principal weaving dynasties of Chimayo. The family has worked in the Rio Grande Valley since the early 18th century; they began producing finished vests and jackets after World War II, when Chimayo cloth became an American classic of Southwestern style.
