Raw, bagged and boarded. First Mimic cover ('Is the Mimic another mutant?'). Heavy overall tanning to the cream background, browning and small chips along the top edge, worn top-left corner box, a small mark/ding near the top right, edge wear. Comics are graded on a ten-point scale. Every raw book we sell is graded by hand against that scale, deliberately on the conservative side. The grade on this listing is marked below.

• Mint (MT) 9.9–10.0 — Perfect. No wear of any kind. Effectively unobtainable in books this old, and we do not expect to use this grade.
• Near Mint (NM) 9.2–9.8 — Looks new. Cover flat and glossy with sharp corners, spine tight and free of creases, staples clean, pages white to off-white.
• Very Fine (VF) 7.5–9.0 — An excellent copy that has been handled carefully. Cover still glossy and largely flat, with slight blunting at the corners and perhaps a light spine stress line. Pages off-white to cream.
• ▶ THIS BOOK — Fine (FN) 5.5–7.0 — Above average and clearly read. Modest spine wear, a crease or two, some loss of cover gloss, light corner blunting. Complete, flat and structurally sound.
• Very Good / Fine (VG/FN) 5.0 — Between the two grades above and below: more accumulated wear than a Fine copy, but cleaner than a typical Very Good.
• Very Good (VG) 3.5–5.0 — A well-read copy. Visible spine wear and creasing, rounded or blunted corners, cover tanning, and possibly a small tear, a stain, or a former owner’s name. Can include a single missing or detached staple. Complete and perfectly readable.
• Good (GD) 1.8–3.0 — Heavily read. Heavy spine roll or creasing, chipped edges and corners, tanned or browned paper, and often a small piece missing, a tear into the art, or writing on the cover. Complete and holding together.
• Fair (FR) 1.0–1.5 — Very heavy wear. Soiling, chips and tears, a split or rolled spine, possible tape, and a cover that may be loose or partly detached. Small pieces may be missing. A reading or filler copy.
• Poor (PR) 0.5 — Severely damaged. Expect major defects — missing pieces, brittle or water-damaged paper, heavy tape, a detached cover. Bought for the cover art or to complete a run.
• CGC-certified books — Graded, encapsulated and sealed by Certified Guaranty Company. The number on the label is CGC’s grade, not ours, and the book cannot be taken out of the holder for inspection.

Paper in books this old is rarely white. Tanning and cream-colored pages are normal for the period and are already accounted for in the grade.
