The two combined their talents to produce this pictoirial account of life in the desert & hill country of Northern Africa. The photographs reproduced here in gravure print, were collected by Haeberlin between the years 1949 to 1953. Generally alone & carrying with him almost nothing but his camera he made four extensive trips throughout N. Africa. In these dangerous surroundings, with enormous courage, diplomacy & simplicity, as well as an iron constitution, he travelled in the stark & limitless stretches of hill country & desert, venturing into places the ordinary traveller wouldn\'t dare.
