POEMS BY THOMAS PARTRIDGE. Gloucester, Mass.: Howard C. Lantz, Printer, [No Date,, but published between 1877 and 1890]. First (and only) edition. Original green cloth stamped in gilt on front cover (7 x 5 inches), pp. [iv], 71. Good condition, with heavy wear on spine, bumped at crown, lacking cloth strip on front cover. Text is complete and fresh and clean internally. Owner’s ink name on front flyleaf. Newspaper clipping affixed to front endpaper about the author, noting his listing in an 1886 Gloucester directory, as “Thomas J. Partridge, fish worker, boards 10 Rowe Square.” He was born in Gloucester, MA, and worked as a fish skinner. He went on to become a successful physician in Hyde Park. The printer, Howard C. Lantz, is listed in Gloucester directories between 1877 and 1890. A \"Thomas J. Partridge, fishworker,\" is listed in the 1886-87 directory only. He is also the author of Annapolis Royal and Other Poems, by the same publisher, circa 1925. A rare book, absent from the trade, and known institutionally in only a handful of holdings.
As can be seen in the photos, there is a rough “stub” before the title page, which made me think it was missing a frontispiece or half-title, but I’ve collated it against institutional holdings, and it is collated complete, and it matches a digitized copy available online, i.e. there was no frontispiece or half-title.
